The time is drawing near for teams to gather, fires to be lit and pots to begin bubbling as competitors prepare to battle it out with their own take on one of South Africa’s most beloved traditions: potjiekos!
The Parkview Potjiekos Competition returns to George Hay Park on 26 July 2026 for another unforgettable day of food, fun and community spirit.
But this event is far more than just a cooking competition, it is a celebration of community, generosity and local spirit. At its heart, the Parkview Potjiekos Competition is about bringing people together to make a difference. Every pot cooked is not only prepared for judging but also all proceeds from every bite goes toward Nicarela’s incredible beneficiaries, which can often be found volunteering at the event! So while there is plenty of friendly rivalry and seriously good food, there is also a deeper purpose behind every bowl served.

And it is the atmosphere that truly sets this event apart.
Imagine the feeling of a big neighbourhood gathering, where friends, families and strangers all mix with ease. There is the smell of slow-cooked potjies in the air, laughter all around, music playing in the background and teams proudly showing off their recipes. From inventive ideas like Ice Cream Potjie to Bread Potjie, alongside every traditional favourite in between. Yes we see you Oxtail lovers!

Add to that a lively beer tent, delicious food stalls, great music and crowds moving from pot to pot tasting, comparing and soaking up the energy, and you have all the makings of a truly special day out.
